How to Draw Rouge Part 2:
Poses

By The Outcasts

Welcome back! Glad you could make it. Like I said in part one of this tutorial I am going to show you a couple of poses for Rouge, alongside the guidelines I used to create them. Remember that this is only a couple of poses, there are at least a thousand more you can do for this character, it only takes a little imagination and creativity. :)

A batter of eyelashes, a slight swing to the hips. Hand stretched out as if in offering and feet pointed in to feign innocence; Girl, you've got yourself a look of seduction going that can get any boy tripping over themselves to puppy love. Notice her tail as it follows the flow of Rouge's hips, and how her wings seemingly mimic her hands? Every part of the body can be used to show expressions, even the extra limbs. :)

Ah, the infamous move used to kick some echidna tail. The wings are spread out both to give Rouge some air and balance as she executes this attack. Make sure that if you show her with an opponent to keep her eyes focussed on the target. Pencil in some speed lines at the feet to add power to the kick.

A bit of aerial pursuit has gotten Rouge into a bit of a frenzy. See how her right wing, hair and ears are pushed against the oncoming wind? Perspective also plays a role in the legs and feet; the further away an object is the smaller they are. The wings are spread out as they prepare for another flap, at the same time allowing wind to pass over and under them as she flies. Make sure to keep the body flowing; everything is being pushed away from the wind. And why not add one of Rouge's gadgets from the game, you can't just let them be forgotten.

After a long day of jewel snatching and escaping mad echidnas, there's nothing like a nice lie down and getting lost in a book with a chilled bottle of Tropical Fruit Punch (well she is a fruit bat. To me, anyway) Keep her wings raised over her body but appear relaxed; maybe allow the ends to flop over themselves or even lay them to the side and stretched out. The pose is similar to that of standing, only the body is a lot more flattened out. Also notice how the cuffs of Rouge's boots squash themselves as she bends her knee. The same goes for the cuffs on her gloves when her elbow bends.
Try this at home as reference: wear a long sleeved, baggy jacket or sweater and bend your elbow a little. Copy down the creases you get. Try this with your pants as well. This works better if you have a mirror somewhere in your room, so that you don't hurt your neck too much from bending it at an odd angle. ^_^

Just a little rough sketch to show how Rouge's head looks from an 3/4 angle. Her hair sort of parts in the middle and spreads out to the sides. Her hair kind of looks likes Big's hair, doesn't it?

Not a lot of poses, but I hope that it's enough to inspire you to make some up of your own. I will add some more in the future if I ever get a chance. I'd like to thank NetRaptor for allowing me to post this up in her How To Draw Tutorial, give her a round of applause, everyone! And when you're done doing that go out there and start drawing. Remember: Anyone can draw; all it takes is a little practise and motivation. And have fun, drawing is meant to be a fun hobby, not a chore.
